The Comfort of Family & Friends
Now that Dani is back home in San Antonio, she feels more ready to be
on her own. She went out to eat all by herself on Friday for lunch,
and spent an hour reading at Starbucks in the evening. She is finding
it's kind of nice to treat herself to special little things here and
there.
She has also decided that it just might be fun cooking for one person
and has found a bunch of healthy, delicious sounding recipes. She
enjoyed shopping for the ingredients and even picked up a bottle of
wine to compliment the food she would be preparing. :)
Dani has had fun playing, walking and hanging-out with Cooper (the
dog). They have been going over about once a day to visit with the
great people who work in our apartment community's office. She also
has some church friends who want to do fun stuff from time to time.
Another helpful activity, is Dani's unexpected new job! It's a very
part-time, very flexible job at Homewood, the assisted living center
where she currently volunteers. They needed someone to go to
doctor's appointments with some of their less capable residents to
make sure no one gets lost or confused, and also to make sure the
doctor's instructions get relayed back correctly. She will continue
to volunteer for leading morning exercises, but will be paid for
helping the residents at their doctor's appointments.
Being with family and friends in Colorado really helped Dani to move
on with a positive perspective once she returned to Texas. Below is a
link to some pics from her trip. Thanks to all for your love and support!

Night Shots and Tall Walls
This will be a kind of double-header post. I had a chance to photograph some stuff the last couple of days so I thought I'd share.
First up Night Shots. As many of you may know I am a big fan of night photography. Nothing like a dark scene, some lights, and a long shutter to set up some cool shots.
Here ya go...

Recently the base has been working on putting up taller cement barriers around the sleeping trailers. These wall are massive. Taller than my trailer now. Better protection is always good.
Check 'em out.

Thanks For The Care
To Dan & Elaine and Mike & Melo:
I recieved all the goodies you sent. I have enjoyed reading the Denver paper as well as several clippings from the Springs paper. I like the magazines too, especially the Broncos yearbook. I have been munching non-stop on the snacks. Good stuff.

An Epiphany...Faith, Art, & Creation
I was recently on relevantmagazine.com reading a blog post by one of my favorite Relevant contributors Winn Collier. In his post, Winn tosses out a few ideas about art and how it relates to faith and our understanding of the Bible. Briefly, here are a few of the ideas he tosses out:
He finishes with this quote
What do you think? Did we miss the point of the Genesis story? I think most readers of this blog will agree that we have a creator, but are the “How's” really as important as the “Why's”. “God loved us so much that He made the world in XYZ order” doesn't really stir us the same as “God loved us so much that He put his heart in to creating this breathtakingly beautiful earth.” Why are we drawn to beauty? I believe that we all possess our own artistic creativity. The question is why.
The arts can help us better understand the Bible Modern paradigm has us equate truth with scientific rationalism so we often approach the Bible from this perspective Our modern paradigm prevents us from seeing that the language used by the author of Genesis reveals a story that seems to be less concerned with the specifics of HOW the world was created but rather pointing us to the idea that the Creator began with an ugly chaotic mess and organized it into a beautiful art. The question that Genesis points us to is not “How was the world created” but rather “Why was the world made beautiful”.
He finishes with this quote
The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead, a snuffed-out candle. To sense that behind anything that can be experienced there is something that our minds cannot grasp, whose beauty and sublimity reaches us only indirectly: this is religiousness.
