Obama Info
As the 2007-2008 Presidential Election starts winding down, we thought we should find some good, hard facts on the candidate of our choice and post them on our website. Below are three documents that we have compiled, complete with sources:
The first is regarding Obama's voting record as well as the bills he has sponsored and co-sponsored in the Senate.
The second is regarding Obama's views on the sanctity of human life and his statements on his personal faith.
The third is to address some rumors about Obama which have been brought to our attention that we thought had been put to rest a long time ago or had never been taken seriously in the first place. . .but go figure.
Anyway, we hope our research benefits whoever chooses to look at it. Just click on the headings below to open each document.

What an wonderful job you did on this and such a lot of research you have done to present this material in such a thoughtful way!
I'm not sure anyone is willing to go to all of that work to present the McCain views, but the one thing that bothers me is that he is presented by the Obama camp as an extension of President Bush, and he is far, far from that! He has always been such a maverick that he was often much closer to an independent as far as his party was concerned.
Obama, on the other hand, has not bucked his party on the issues and has always avoided going against the powers that got him where he is today. He has had opportunities to make a difference by not going along with the party line and supporting those attempting to make a difference, but he did not.
Whoever is our next president MUST be willing to buck his party to make a difference or the government will never get back to the business of doing what is best for the people and reducing the size of government.
It also bothers me that Obama has never had to sacrifice much for his country or made the hard choices that have secured our freedoms.
Hurrah for America and freedom to choose our leaders and the secret ballot, right?

Obama's background as a Community Organizer speaks to his ability to listen and then work toward the best option for all. And, he has reached across the isle on several occassions, teaming up with GOP Sens. Tom Coburn and Richard Lugar to pass laws enhancing government transparency and curtailing the proliferation of nuclear and conventional weapons (factcheck.org).
I think Obama is willing to talk to and work with people of varying views in order to come up with a plan that works the best for the most people. I personally, would prefer a President who took this approach rather than one that refuses to listen or do what is best for everyone involved.
Good research guys! Obama's website also has a very thorough business plan, which I found interesting. There are some holes but there are checks and balances to accomodate for the holes. I also went to the McCain site - to provide equal time - and couldn't find a comprehensive business plan in one location...so, if anyone can point me to it..it would be a good read. However, the civil rights issues so strongly divide the two candidates I doubt I would be able to vote for McCain. Also Mom - can you point to some facts where McCain and Bush differ? To date - and I can't claim to have seen an abundance of research that factually separates their positions on policies. Maybe it is less about what they beleive and more about how they approach getting it done it that separates them? Anyway, open to education - although, as stated the civil rights policy positions pretty much clinch it for me. That and the fact that Obama has a wonderful ability to continually focus on what the core issues are and tries to create energy around what people can solve together vs what they can not. Melodie
